Coronado Schools Foundation e-Newsletter
January 2010
Best wishes in the New Year to you and your family!  Be sure to review all the opportunities our business partners have offered in the rest of this newsletter listed below.

Our small school district is facing an unprecedented $2M+ in cuts for the 2010-11 school year; incomprehensible with some 85% of the budget paying our wonderful teachers, clerical and support staff, and maintenance and operations crew.  Board President Spiro Chaconas and the board members and staff of CSF appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to your involvement in the March 24th Telethon.

How can you make a difference?  Get involved in the 22nd Annual Telethon, presented by Time Warner Cable, live from CHS Theatre, Wednesday, March 24th, 5-9  pm, with a theme of "Survive and Thrive".  Over 1,000 Coronado school children will perform and our principals will be the "tribe leaders" each hour, with a goal of raising $160,000.  All funds will directly benefit the 2010-11 school year.

* Volunteers needed before the event and, day and night of event.  Contact Development Coordinator Sarah Lynch at
sarah@csfkids.org or call 437-8059, ext 1.
* Pre-pledge your donation at
www.csfkids.org.  Great raffle prizes including a longboard from Island Surf for all donors who give $250 or more as well as Time Warner Cable packages.
* Only two business partner slots left!  Contact Development Coordinator (see above).
* Telethon will be shown live on Channel 19 on TWC in Coronado AND will be streamed LIVE on the Internet so family members and friends across the globe can watch and donate in support of our schools.

Help us go green!  Coronado schools are now recycling batteries of all kinds.  Recycling containers can be found in the front office of each school site.

Thank you for supporting the businesses who support our schools!

Connecting Young People with the Wonders of Science

Time Warner Cable has just launched a new five-year, $100 million philanthropic initiative to address America’s declining proficiency in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) called Connect a Million Minds. Please visit this website, where parents and community members can pledge to connect young people with the wonders of science. “The Connectory” is a one-of-a-kind online resource that makes it simple and easy for parents and students to find informal science and technology learning opportunities in their communities; grants to support non-profit organizations that bring stimulating, high-quality and affordable after-school STEM learning to students.
