Telethon Partnerships Benefit Coronado Schools Foundation
CORONADO – March 14 – On March 28, the Coronado Schools Foundation will present is 19th Annual Telethon by Time Warner Cable as a major fundraising vehicle to ensure continued academic excellence for Coronado's public school students. With up to $339,000 in budget cuts looming for the Coronado Unified School District (CUSD) to be implemented for the 2007-08 school year, the Foundation looks to the community for this much needed financial support. “Time Warner Cable’s commitment to our schools and community makes it possible for the Foundation to raise over $100,000 in four hours, funds which benefit every classroom,” noted Telethon Chair Sue Shirey.
The Foundation has received generous support within the community from local businesses and has business partners for each hour of the Telethon as well as a Producing Sponsor, Marital Arts of America. Last year dogo owner Miko Peled stepped up to become the Foundation’s first Corporate Lifetime Member, pledging $25,000 over a five year period. “We are elated when Miko agreed to make this level of commitment to our public schools, through his support of the Telethon.” said Executive Director Patty Cowan. “The Foundation is fortunate to have a dedicated partner whose own children are in our public schools and realizes that in order to keep the level of academic excellence we have come to expect, supplemental funding is necessary.”
“Martial Arts America is proud to participate in this important event and to support the Foundation's efforts to ensure a quality education to the public school children of this community,” said Miko Peled, owner and head instructor of Martial Arts America. “We are especially pleased to be donating this year and encourage businesses and individuals alike to consider joining us as Life Members." Sensei Miko Peled designed this martial arts school to help preschoolers develop better attention and discipline, give grade-schoolers and teenagers’ confidence and self-esteem; and leave parents with greater stamina, endurance, and a toned body.
