It’s been over a decade since the last All School’s Musical was performed in Coronado. Thanks to the generosity of The Vernetti Family, the Islander Youth Theater’s production of Once on This Island will premiere with a single performance on Friday, June 9th, 2017 at the Coronado High School Performing Arts Center. Ron and Betsy Vernetti, longtime supporters of both the Coronado Schools Foundation and Coronado School of the Arts, made a very generous donation in memory of their son, John Vernetti. They are elated with the first year of this program and are excited to see the show! The show features over 40 children, grades 2 through 12,and tickets are on sale now.
Last semester, Island Youth Theater joined with Director Laura Bueno, owner of Playground Players Productions, to produce The Wizard of Oz. The success of that show helped to double the enrollment for Once on This Island, with children from all over San Diego County participating. Ms. Bueno has directed and choreographed several youth theater productions throughout San Diego. She has performed with the San Diego Opera chorus for 13 years and has performed with musical theater companies throughout San Diego County in numerous roles, as well as in Missouri where she completed her BS in Music Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Once On This Island is a beautiful story of love overcoming obstacles and prejudice and gives us all a lesson by which to live. With one performance only, you won't want to miss it!
The performance is on June 9th at 5:30 pm at Coronado High School and tickets are now available online HERE
